Dear Students and Prospective Students,
As the Foreign Language Education we are delighted to welcome you among us. Language teaching is not only an academic field; it is also an important process that aims to build bridges between cultures, foster effective communication, and help individuals understand the world from a broader perspective.
The teaching profession is one of the most valuable and responsible professions shaping the future of societies. We believe that teaching is not limited to transferring knowledge; rather, it is a meaningful and respected profession that conveys values, guides individuals, and helps them discover their potential. For this reason, in our department we place great importance on educating our students as prospective teachers who adhere to ethical values, demonstrate responsibility, show empathy, and adopt an inclusive approach to education.
Our program is structured with an approach that integrates theoretical knowledge with classroom practice. While our students gain a strong academic background in areas such as language acquisition, foreign language teaching methods, linguistics, assessment and evaluation, educational technologies, and intercultural communication, they also have the opportunity to apply this knowledge in real learning environments through teaching practice and school experience courses. In addition, the English literature courses offered in our program contribute to students’ understanding of language not only as a tool for communication but also as a carrier of cultural and intellectual heritage.
Our department also has a strong academic staff consisting of scholars with diverse areas of expertise. This disciplinary diversity provides our students with a rich academic environment and opportunities to learn from different perspectives, including language teaching, language acquisition research, educational technologies, linguistics, and intercultural studies. Through this dynamic academic environment, our students develop not only their teaching skills but also their research, critical thinking, and professional development abilities.
In today’s world, language education has become increasingly global. Our graduates are prepared not only to work as teachers in schools but also as language education specialists, material developers, academics, or educators who can work in various educational institutions. Our department aims to educate teachers who can communicate effectively with individuals from different cultures and work successfully in multicultural learning environments.
At the same time, educational approaches are rapidly evolving in today’s changing world. Digital technologies, online learning environments, and artificial intelligence–supported applications are reshaping language teaching. Therefore, our most important advice to you is to continuously improve yourselves by adapting to evolving educational approaches, using technology effectively, and embracing lifelong learning.
Our department also aims to build a strong academic community that learns, researches, and supports one another. This environment, enriched by the contributions of students and academics from diverse backgrounds, offers valuable opportunities for both academic and professional development.
Dear students and prospective students, the journey of teaching is not merely a career; it is also a responsibility to touch people’s lives, guide their learning processes, and contribute to the future of society. We would be proud to accompany you on this meaningful journey and wish you a successful and fulfilling academic life.
With my best regards,
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Züleyha Ünlü Carlık Head of the Department of Foreign Language Education Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University
